Erhardt Projects recently accomplished an unprecedented transport operation in Saudi Arabia, combining land and maritime cabotage for an ambitious clean energy project awarded to its client, a leading international engineering company with a clear, strong commitment to respond to the demand for energy and environmentally friendly products worldwide.
Given the complex nature of the logistics, the customer relied on Erhardt Projects, a specialist in this type of logistical challenge, to transport the equipment smoothly.
The equipment, of high strategic value for the region, weighs in the order of 500 tons and measures an enormous 52 meters long and 8 meters in diameter. All logistical operations must be handled by technical experts to ensure safe travel to their destination.
Such an operation requires exceptional coordination between the shipper, the customer, the shipping line, the heavy haulage team, and various government agencies to process authorizations and make structural changes to overland routes.
The journey began in Rabigh (Saudi Arabia). Over the course of two days, land transport was used to reach the port of King Abdulla, the location chosen to load the pieces on board ship, secure them, and transport them by sea to the next destination, the port of Jubail. This unusual maritime cabotage operation required numerous permits from different authorities.
Numerous upgrades had to be made along the route for internal transportation from origin to port, including the construction of bypass roads, the removal of ephemeral buildings, security fences, etc.
After a six-day crossing, the specially contracted ship arrived at Jubail Port and the cargo was unloaded onto trailers, a real challenge for the Erhardt Projects team due to the gigantic size of the pieces.
Only 192 km remained to the final destination in Tanajib (Saudi Arabia). This required six days of travel, which included crossing Saudi Royal Commission areas, the Saudi Railway, and highways, with crossings that required the usual traffic to be modified.
In projects of this type, every aspect of logistics requires meticulous planning to meet the client’s needs and fulfill the specific requirements of the project, ensuring that all equipment and resources are in the right place at the right time to bring the project to fruition.
